Clean Street View

SUMMARY

Screen grabs of street view are a common sight on many news websites. A crime report or other news story is often accompanied by a Street View Screen shot of the location. The problem is that the user interface can make getting a 'clean' screenshot difficult. Clean Street view is a small extension that removes the user interface elements so you can take better screenshots. It works by overriding the CSS code to 'hide' the elements. The original idea came from a post by UK Journalist and lecturer Karl Hodge. He identified the CSS elements on the page which are used in the plugin. Note: Clean Street view doesn't remove the street names of direction arrows. These are baked into the image.

The latest version of Clean Street View is available on the Chrome web and is currently being used by 3,000 active users. The initial version was launched on 2019-10-17.

HOW TO INSTALL Clean Street View FROM A CRX FILE

1. Download Clean Street View CRX file
2. NOTE: Sometimes the browser may block downloading / installing CRX file from outside the Chrome Web Store. If so, you may need to download the ZIP file instead
3. In the URL bar, go to chrome://extensions
4. Enable Developer mode
