SUMMARY

This tool allows you to contribute data about the ads you're shown to further the understanding of researchers, journalists, and the public of online political advertising and how personal data is used to target you with ads. Ad Observer is offered by the Online Political Transparency Project of New York University. This extension was developed in partnership with the Algorithmic Transparency Institute.

The latest version of Ad Observer is available on the Chrome web and is currently being used by 3,000 active users. The initial version was launched on 2020-07-24.

HOW TO INSTALL Ad Observer FROM A CRX FILE

1. Download Ad Observer CRX file
2. NOTE: Sometimes the browser may block downloading / installing CRX file from outside the Chrome Web Store. If so, you may need to download the ZIP file instead
3. In the URL bar, go to chrome://extensions
4. Enable Developer mode
