SUMMARY

AdDetector spots articles with corporate sponsors. It puts a big banner on top of any article that may appear unbiased at first glance, but is actually paid for by an advertiser. The goal of this extension to increase corporate transparency for internet users. === "Native advertising" is a method of advertising that presents ads as journalism or unbiased articles. This technique is used by publications like the New York Times, The Atlantic, Gawker, Buzzfeed, and others. Stories may be marked as sponsored, but disclaimers are subtle because the whole point is that users don't know it's an ad. === This extension requires permission to run on pages you visit, but your data is never used, stored, or transmitted. The latest version of AdDetector is available on the Chrome web and is currently being used by 1,000 active users. The initial version was launched on 2015-06-17.

HOW TO INSTALL AdDetector FROM A CRX FILE

1. Download AdDetector CRX file
2. NOTE: Sometimes the browser may block downloading / installing CRX file from outside the Chrome Web Store. If so, you may need to download the ZIP file instead
3. In the URL bar, go to chrome://extensions
4. Enable Developer mode
