SUMMARY

Facebook uses extensive techniques to prevent automated removal of their 'Sponsored' posts. Using a simple string comparison algorithm, this extension will determine whether a post is 'Sponsored' and then remove it from the feed. An example of some keywords are: "buy", "sale", "limited time", "act now", "buy now", "limited time offer" As a user, you can customise the default keywords from the extension Options page. The extension Options page also allows enabling console logging to see the details of posts which are being removed as you scroll. The screenshots don't really do it justice. Install and see for yourself! Please be aware: Although unlikely, the algorithm can match a non-sponsored post and delete it. The accuracy greatly depends on the keyword list and threshold value in the extension Options page.

The Facebook Sponsored Post Remover extension was removed from the Chrome Web Store on 2024-07-18. At the time of removal, it had 28 users. The initial version was launched on 2023-04-04.

HOW TO INSTALL Facebook Sponsored Post Remover FROM A CRX FILE

1. Download Facebook Sponsored Post Remover CRX file
2. NOTE: Sometimes the browser may block downloading / installing CRX file from outside the Chrome Web Store. If so, you may need to download the ZIP file instead
3. In the URL bar, go to chrome://extensions
4. Enable Developer mode
